Women go to a salon with a picture in hand and say, "I want this haircut." Most times they've been unhappy with the end result.
It's helpful for the stylist to visualize the magazine pictures that you rip out and bring to your appointment. But try to understand that the pictures may not always be 100% realistic. It's important to remember that, the hairstyles you see in magazine photos involve hours of professional styling, which can make a cut look completely different. Don't be rigid about the hairstyle, have a talk of ideas with your stylist first. Your stylists understand similar looks and they'll be able to style you in a manner that you can do on your own at home too.
Also pay attention. Do research before you're going to a good stylist. When you meet a friend whose haircut you admire, ask her where she got it. Before going to the stylist for that perfect haircut, ensure that the stylist has a good reputation.
Show your hairstylist exactly how much you'd like to get cut. Don't just say "two inches off."
The client's and stylist's perspective on an inch can be different. The best practice is to physically show your stylist what you mean by two inches. Ask as many questions before the haircut begins, keep in mind that the stylist might cut the front pieces shorter than that if you want layers. Also, whenever your dresser uses terms like "layers, blunt etc…" ask to see a photo that illustrates what is being referred to.
So ladies, do your homework before you commit your beautiful locks away.
